Catherine M. Bradford

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:30 a.m, Friday, November 24, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner with Rev. Don Komboh celebrating.

 

Catherine Mary Sexton was born on September 10, 1947, to Jim and Lavonne Sexton in Ames, IA.  She graduated from Sumner High School in 1965.  She enjoyed Cheerleading, Homecoming Attendant, Band, Instrumental Small Group, Instrumental Solo, Mixed Chorus, Girls Glee Club, Vocal Small Groups, Swing Show, Yearbook editor, FHA, Play Crew, Intramurals, and the Style Show Planning Committee.  She was also an accomplished springboard diver on the Sumner Swim team, achieving a 2nd place medal in a state competition. She attended UNI in Cedar Falls with a major in physical education.   

 

On October 28, 1967, she married Terry Bradford.   They eventually settled in Minneapolis and later divorced.  They had 2 children Kim and Jason.

 

Cathy worked in management for over 35 years for Dayton’s, which later became Marshall Fields, and eventually Macy's, in Minneapolis, all while being a single mom. She was a wonderful mother, and saw to it that both Kim and Jason graduated from college.

 

In 2009, she retired and moved to Sumner to be close to her mother and sister.  In August 2015, she moved to Henderson, Nevada, to be close to her son Jason, his wife Wendy and her granddaughter Zoe.  She was a kind, loving person who always put her family first.

 

She is survived by her son Jason, (Wendy), granddaughter, Zoe, Bradford, of Henderson, NV, granddaughter, Brianna Rupp and grandson Brayden Rupp of Wichita, KS, sister Debbie, (Randy) Schultz, of Sumner, her uncle, Gilbert (Judy) Korman, of Waterford, WI., her niece, Angie (Doug) Dickey of Orange, CA, her nephew, Marc (Jen) McCullough, El Segundo, CA, and 12 first cousins.   

 

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and daughter, Kim.
